To check the tension of each belt, the following rule of thumb is recommended.

push firmly on the belt with your thumb at a distance halfway between the pulleys and note how far the belt can be pushed or deflected and measure this deflection with a ruler.

The belt should deflect ¼-inch if the distance from the pulley center to pulley center 7 and 11 inches; the belt should deflect ½ inch if the distance from pulley center to pulley center is between 12 to 16 inches.

Draining

The engine should be cool, parking brake applied and wheels chock before this procedure is performed. With the engine completely cool, remove the radiator cap. Move a large enough container under the radiator to catch the coolant.

A 3/8-inch inner diameter hose should now be attached to the drain fitting to direct coolant into the container, and then open the drain fitting. After stop flowing out of the radiator, move the container under the engine block drain plug and loosen the drain plug and allow the engine block to drain.

While the coolant is draining, check the condition of the radiator hoses, heater hoses and clamps. Replace any damaged clamps or hoses.

Flushing

Once the cooling system is complete drained, flush the radiator with fresh water from a garden hose until water runs clear at the drain The flushing action of the water will remove sediments but not rust and scale from the engine and cooling tube surfaces.

The chemical action of cleaner will be needed to remove these types of deposits. If the radiator is severely corroded, damaged or leaking, it should be removed and taken to a radiator repair shop.

Remove the hose from the overflow coolant reservoir. Drain the reservoir and flush I with clean water, then reconnect the hose.

Refilling

Close and retighten the radiator drain plug and also retighten the engine block drain plug. The heater temperature control should be place in the maximum heat position. Slowly add new coolant a fifty, fifty mixture of water and antifreeze to the radiator until it’s full. Then add coolant to the reservoir up to the lower mark.

Leave the radiator cap off and run the engine in a well ventilated area until the thermostat opens, this can be know when the water starts to flow. The engine should be turn off and left to cool, add coolant as needed to bring the level to the lip of the filler neck.

Squeeze the upper radiator hose expel air, then add more coolant mixture if necessary. Then replace the radiator cap. Restart the engine and check for leaks.
